Why should you use open-source software?

Open source software, by definition:
"Open source refers to software whose source code is made available, enabling use, modification, and redistribution."

Alright, so what does this do for you?

For one, open-source software is almost all of the time, completely free. The other benefit is that the code can be modified, allowing for "community support", what this means is that someone could copy the code, edit it ( whether it be fixing bugs or adding features ), and then make a "fork" of that application that you can then download. Think of a fork as a modified copy. It doesn't always have to be one person who creates the code, posts it, then another person tweaks it and reuploads it either, sometimes (like with large projects like Blender and Linux Distros) instead of one person managing the code, it can be 12, or maybe a 1000+ indivduals working to improve the code. This means the code will be overall improved. Unlike a big company "improving" there product for more advertisements, membership locked features, and plenty of bugs to fuel your frustration, open-source projects don't HAVE subscriptions or ads, they have optional donation pages.

Open-source software also comes with the safety of owning the product, instead of borrowing it (AKA a live-service model or a subscription based model).

Going open-source is one of the many requirements of being on a PC. There are so many popular closed-source applications with open-source clones/remakes you can use in day to day life.
